What are you waiting for? All you have to do is take care of the owner’s pets while you’re there. What? You think that would be a real hassle? Think again, pet lover. Did you know that stroking a dog lowers your blood pressure and calms you down? Did you know that dogs need to sleep for most of the day, especially as they are getting old. And cats, what about cats? On Trusted Housesitters I have seen many examples of one or two cats in homes who have automatic food dispensers and cat flaps on the outside door to let themselves in and out while you are out exploring the countryside, climbing the mountains, or visiting the city, or even writing your book in the owner’s study with fibre broadband fully provided.
Other pets on offer to share your temporary home with are hens, ducks and geese, with free eggs provided. Part of your responsibilities could be to collect the eggs and once a week, change their litter. Oh and it’s perfectly ok for you to amuse yourself for hours watching the male chasing around after his harem. No extra charge.

What you need to remember as a Trusted Housekeeper is that the owner(s) need you to act responsibly and actually enjoy looking after their pets in exchange for allowing you their well-decorated, warm, cosy, complete with all mod-cons luxury 3 or 4 bedroom house to make use of as your own for as long as agreed. They are not stupid. They are doing this because a) they don’t want to put their most-loved friends into boarding kennels and spend a fortune while making their loved ones miserable and lonely and catch kennel-cough b) they want to fly off to exotic faraway places and explore the world too. You are doing them a big favour and saving them a fortune.
So what happens if you break their air-fryer or scratch their car while you are staying at their place? Oh, did I not mention, sometimes the owner will leave their car in their garage and cover you on their insurance so you can drive their pets to their favourite walks. Since the owner is also signed up as a member of Trusted Housesitters they will be covered for insurance and so will you as a premium member if, for example, your sit is cancelled at the last minute and you have already paid out on booking a train to get there.
